Navies of India and Bangladesh conduct joint exercise
The 4th edition of bilateral exercises between the Indian and Bangladesh navies, Bongosagar-23, and the 5th edition of Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) by the two navies were conducted in the northern Bay of Bengal from November 7 to 9.
- Ships and aircraft from both the navies undertook joint patrolling along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), and subsequently conducted maritime exercises to enhance interoperability.
- Indian Navy Ships Kuthar, Kiltan and Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) Dornier participated in the exercise along with Bangladesh Navy Ships Abu Bakr, Abu Ubaidah and MPA. The ships undertook communication drills, surface gun-shoots, tactical manoeuvres and other exercises that culminated with a steam past.
India, USA sign MoU to boost cooperation and enhance innovation in startup ecosystem
India and the USA have signed an agreement to boost cooperation and enhance innovation in the startup ecosystem in the two countries.
- Under the agreement, the two countries will share information and best practices for startup fundraising and promoting innovation and job growth, particularly in critical and emerging technologies (CET) identified under the India-US Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET).

Sovereign green bonds for NRIs offer credit-risk-free returns in long term
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed non-resident Indians (NRIs) to invest in the government’s sovereign green bonds (SGrBs) issued for 2023-24.
- The government plans to borrow Rs 20,000 crore through the bonds in the current financial year. SGrBs are used to fund environmental projects.
- Green bonds can be issued by countries, companies and multilateral organisations to only fund projects that have positive impacts on the climate and environment and provide investors with fixed income payments. Examples of green projects include renewable energy, clean transportation and green buildings.

India’s GDP to grow 6.7.1 pc during 2024-2026, growth prospects remain strong: S&P
India’s economic growth prospects should remain strong over the medium term, with GDP expanding 6-7.1 per cent annually in fiscal years 2024-2026, S&P Global Ratings said.
- In a report titled ‘Global Banks Country-By-Country Outlook 2024’, S&P said the banking sector’s weak loans will decline to 3-3.5 per cent of gross advances by March 31, 2025, on the back of structural improvement, including healthy corporate balance sheets, tighter underwriting standards and improved risk-management practices.
- Interest rates in India are unlikely to rise materially, and this should limit the risk for the banking industry.

ICC suspends Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership over political interference
The International Cricket Council has suspended Sri Lanka’s membership with immediate effect, citing government interference in its administration.
- Earlier this week, the ministry of sport sacked the national board – Sri Lanka Cricket – over the team’s poor performances at the 50-over Cricket World Cup in India.
- Sri Lanka are ninth in the World Cup points standings after completing the league stage with only two wins from nine games.
National Games: Maharashtra Clinch Raja Bhalindra Trophy for First Time Since 1994
Table-toppers Maharashtra clinched three gold medals in Yogasana and one more from shooting on the final day of the 37th National Games to clinch the Raja Bhalindra Singh Rolling Trophy for overall championship for the first time since 1994.
- Maharashtra finished with a total of 228 medals, including 80 gold, 69 silver and 79 bronze medals to end Services Sports Control Board’s (SSCB) reign at the top since the 2007 Games in Guwahati. SSCB finished second, bagging 66 gold, 27 silver and 33 bronze medals, while Haryana were third in the standings with 62 gold, 54 silver and 73 bronze.
- Madhya Pradesh and Kerala finished fourth and fifth respectively with hosts Goa registering their best-ever finish of 9th with a total of 92 medals, including 27 gold.

NPCI appoints Pankaj Tripathi as ‘UPI Safety Ambassador
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced the appointment of acclaimed Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi as its ‘UPI Safety Ambassador’ to strengthen safety awareness on digital payment platforms.
- The NPCI move follows the ongoing discussions regarding the safety and security of digital payment platforms, particularly the United Payments Interface (UPI).

Grammy Awards: ‘Abundance in Millets’ featuring PM Modi nominated for Best Global Music Performance
The song ‘Abundance in Millets’, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sung by Falguni Shah and her husband Gaurav Shah, has been nominated in the best global music performance category at the 2024 Grammy Awards.Â
- ‘Abundance in Millets” was created to raise awareness of the super-grain as another potential key to minimizing world hunger. Falu is a Grammy Award winning Indian vocalist and songwriter. In 2022, Falguni Shah had won the Grammy Award for Best Children’s Music Album ‘A Colorful World.’
Cricket Legends Virender Sehwag, Diana Edulji, and Aravinda de Silva Inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame
Three cricketing greats and standout performers in the history of the game – legendary opener Virender Sehwag, former Indian Women Test skipper Diana Edulji and Sri Lanka’s iconic star Aravinda de Silva are the latest inductees to be added to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
- The ICC Hall of Fame honours the greatest international cricketers throughout the long history of the sport, and the enduring legacies of de Silva, Edulji and Sehwag see them join as inductees number 110, 111 and 112 respectively.
Ravindra, Matthews claim ICC Player of the Month award for October
New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews announced the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month award for October 2023.
- Ravindra, the 23-year-old Blackcaps batter, claimed his first Men’s Player of the Month award, showcasing exceptional form in the World Cup 2023 group stages. His remarkable 406 runs at an average of 81.20 included a superb 123 not out against England and a blazing 116 against Australia.
- Matthews, the top-ranked all-rounder in the women’s T20I rankings, secured her second Women’s Player of the Month award. She led West Indies with scintillating performances in the T20I series against Australia, amassing 310 runs at an average of 155, with a standout unbeaten 132.
